For over two decades, Austin-based festival SXSW Interactive has been a haven for community-driven tech creativity and the socially conscious. Attracting thousands of the technology enthusiasts, experts, and thought leaders to celebrate and inspire social innovation and entrepreneurship, SXSW Interactive has quickly become one of the most sought-after events. This year over 3,000 panels compete for a position in the SXSW Interactive programming, and the new SXSW PanelPicker voting tool is open for public voting. That’s right, you have a say in which panels, discussions, and keynotes make it to the stage. The public voting deadline is fast approaching and we (SweetLabs) need your help to bring our ideas to the festival.
We’re proposing a panel for participants and viewers that are seeking authoritative information on the business and creative sides of “app” development, distribution, and innovation. Here is a brief summary of our panel submission, speakers, and how to vote.
Five years ago, “apps” were an abbreviation for appetizers. Now, there are billions of apps across every device in your home. Join the experts that create apps, distribute apps, invest in apps, and make the devices on which apps run, in a discussion about the evolution of “the app” and hear their predictions as to what happens in next 5 years. Thanks in large part to the explosion of app-centric devices such as smartphones and tablets, the term “app” represents a new kind of computing experience. Technology giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Google have made considerable investments in the “app wars”, and star developers following in the footsteps of companies like Rovio continue to emerge. This panel will explore the future of “the app” and the upcoming opportunities and challenges stakeholders will face, whether you build apps, app stores, or devices on which apps run. Come learn from industry leaders and hear how they are, and you should, prepare for the next 5 years of “the app.”
